TRAINING IN THE JAPANESE MARTIAL ARTS OF AIKIDO, WEAPONS, AND ZAZEN

Aikido at Hawks Hill

“A harmless man is not a good man. A good man is a very, very dangerous man who has that under voluntary control.”
— J. Peterson

At Hawks Hill, we believe martial arts is not about aggression or domination — it is about discipline, control, and responsibility. True strength is not found in being harmless, but in developing the skill, power, and confidence to be formidable, while choosing restraint.

Our training blends traditional Japanese martial arts — rooted in Aikido and Jujutsu — with weapons practice, meditation, and breathing exercises. This approach cultivates not only physical ability but also mental clarity, presence, and emotional balance.

We hold that the highest purpose of martial training is to create individuals who are:

Strong and capable in body and mind
Calm and disciplined in the face of conflict
Confident and compassionate, knowing their strength need not be misused

At Hawks Hill, we train to become people who can face challenges with resilience, protect others with integrity, and live with courage and self-mastery.

This is more than martial arts — it is a path toward becoming a good man or woman in the fullest sense: powerful, disciplined, and under control.

What Our Members Have to Say

update, 1/7/25: I joined the dojo at 50 years old and have been a member now almost 7 years and it has been an exciting and challenging journey of personal development. my only regret is I didn't start sooner. the hardest part of training is walking through the door for the first time. you will not regret it, there is no other training like this around here. Coletti Sensei is a great teacher and the members all train hard and lift each other up. it's a great environment to be in. why would you wait?

I’ve been a member for over four years and am incredibly happy and grateful to have found this dojo. I didn’t know anything about Aikido before I showed up to watch a class and now it’s a lifestyle. This isn't about fighting, it's about pushing your limits, polishing your spirit and discovering a new way to see the world around you with a great group of people. The lessons learned here can resolve physical conflict but can be applied to every aspect of your life. There isn’t any training around here like Hawks Hill. In addition to the art of Aikido, the dojo offers zazen meditation, misogi and Iaido, the art of Japanese sword drawing. C'mon, who doesn't want to know how to handle a sword! All these practices are connected and offer students a well-rounded curriculum. It's all here in a peaceful country setting, you just need to walk through the door…..
