Most Schools Teach Classes. Hawks Hill Builds Martial Artists.

Most martial arts schools offer a couple of classes a week, irregular schedules, and limited contact with the instructor. Hawks Hill offers something entirely different — a structured path, a committed community, and a curriculum meant to shape who you become over time.

Why Hawks Hill Is Different:

More Training

  • Up to 11 classes every week

  • Consistent, predictable morning and evening class times

  • One membership allows you to attend every class

More Instruction

  • The chief instructor leads every class

  • Senior students train consistently and support beginners

  • You get real one-on-one attention every time you step on the mat

More Curriculum

  • Hand-to-hand fundamentals and applied joint control

  • Weapons training: staff, sword, and knife

  • Iaijutsu: sword drawing, cutting, and eventually tameshigiri (live blade cutting)

  • Breathwork for resilience

  • Seated meditation for clarity and presence

All taught as a unified system, not scattered add-ons.

More Support

  • Member portal with technique videos

  • Printed handbook with principles, terminology, and progression

  • Clear expectations so you always know where you’re headed

More Community

  • Seasonal gatherings and holiday events

  • Summer training outdoors on the farm

  • Group hikes, open-field practices, and weapons work in the forest

  • Adults who train together, support each other, and grow together

This is a high-trust, disciplined community, not a drop-in class.

An Environment You Can’t Get Anywhere Else
  • A traditional dojo inside a converted barn

  • Access to the dojo's physical library containing original and rare books handed down through generations of skilled and highly respected martial arts instructors

  • Set on a 90-acre historic farm with open fields and forest trails

  • Training that extends outdoors — working weapons in open space, watching sunsets from the hilltop

  • Encounters with wildlife and the natural world

It’s not just a place to train — it’s a place to reset, reconnect, and breathe.

“Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion - you sink to the level of your training.”

— ARCHILOCHUS

Beginners

People come to Hawks Hill because they want more than a workout—they want a serious, structured martial arts curriculum that builds strength, skill, awareness, and capability. Our program blends hand-to-hand training, weapons, breath training, and seated meditation into a full system designed to challenge you, develop real ability, and change how you move through the world.

Training is open to adults 18 and older, and no prior experience is required. What matters is your willingness to work hard and show up consistently. Your first session is a free trial class, and you don’t need a uniform. Just wear sweatpants and a t-shirt to step onto the mat.

At Hawks Hill, you’re not buying one class a week—you’re gaining access to a complete curriculum taught across eleven training opportunities, offered at consistent times each week, morning and evening. While many schools in the area offer limited or irregular schedules, we provide stable, predictable training you can build your life around. Students may attend any and all classes in the core curriculum as part of their membership, progressing at their own pace with the support of instructors and senior members.

The early months of training are challenging but rewarding. You’ll strengthen your body, sharpen your focus, and learn the foundational skills needed to train safely and confidently. Everything is taught step-by-step, and beginners work closely with the chief instructor and senior students to build a strong base.

Private Training

Private training is available to adults 18 and older who want individualized instruction before entering group classes or who need a more flexible way to begin training. These sessions are ideal for students who prefer learning fundamentals in a quieter setting or who want focused attention on movement, falling safely, striking basics, and introductory weapons skills.

Each session is taught by the chief instructor, with a senior student assisting during demonstrations. Private sessions can be taken individually or with one additional partner.

Private training is intended as a short-term on-ramp to group classes. Most students transition into group classes within 1–2 months once they’ve built confidence and foundational skill.

What Our Members Have to Say

Google-Reviews-transparent-2.png

I have been in and out of dojos for most of my life and have seen hundreds of dojos like Hawks Hill…in movies. Boasting a large acreage that allows for training inside as well as out in nature, Coletti Sensei truly lives the lifestyle rather than this just being an after work activity. Also trained in Chinese Herbalism and Acupuncture, Coletti Sensei strives to make this dojo a safe place dedicated to self betterment in body, mind, and spirit. This is reflected in his students as well, who are always eager to welcome a new person in and help them along their martial arts journey. Whether you stay for a few weeks or decades, you will not regret coming to learn and heal at Hawks Hill.
