lISA'S aPPROACH

Therapy with Lisa is individualized, responsive, and rooted in the belief that meaningful change requires both insight, commitment, and application. Sessions may draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral skills, neuroscience-informed therapy, somatic awareness, narrative therapy, wellness models, Choice Theory, Polyvagal Theory, and Stoic philosophy.
These approaches are not used as a rigid formula. Therapy is shaped by the client’s goals, values, lived experience, current nervous system mode, regulation, and readiness for change. Some sessions may focus on emotional processing and deeper self-understanding. Others may involve psychoeducation, practical coping strategies, nervous system regulation, relationship patterns, values, boundaries, or the stories a client has carried about themselves and their life.
When meaningful to the client, therapy may also include religious, spiritual, philosophical, dream exploration, vocation, or wellness-oriented exploration. Deeper conversations around existentialism, suffering, faith, meaning, responsibility, purpose, and identity are welcomed.
what therapy is like with Lisa
Lisa’s style is warm, attentive, compassionate, and consistent, but also honest, direct, and practical. Clients often come to therapy needing space for their story to be heard fully and clearly, but also wanting help making sense of what they are experiencing and what can be done about it.
Therapy may involve careful listening, emotional release, practical tools, psychoeducation, and gentle, beneficial challenging to maladaptive patterns when appropriate. Lisa works to understand what each client needs in the room — whether that means asking thoughtful questions, giving space for the client to speak and release freely, helping regulate their nervous system, or identifying patterns that are keeping the client stuck to thereby find break-through solutions. This is all attained through the development of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship with Lisa.
The goal is not dependence on therapy. The goal is to help clients build clarity, self-trust, emotional steadiness, and a stronger sense of agency over time.

telehealth therapy
Therapy is primarily offered through secure telehealth for clients located in New York State at the time of their appointment; they do not need to be a resident. Telehealth allows clients to access consistent, private support from a space that feels personal, safe, comfortable, and convenient to them.
Clients must be physically located in New York at the time of each session unless otherwise discussed and legally permitted. A private space, reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone are required for telehealth appointments.
Telehealth can be especially useful for busy professionals, rural clients, caregivers, and those who want consistent therapy without additional travel time.

Fees and Private-Pay Therapy
Mental health counseling is a private-pay service. The standard therapy fee is $160 per session.
A limited number of sliding scale spots may be available based on financial need and availability, at Lisa’s discretion. Sliding scale availability is not guaranteed and may be reviewed periodically.
Superbills may be provided upon request for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance company. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on the client’s individual insurance plan.
Why Private Pay?
Private-pay therapy allows for greater privacy for you and greater flexibility and clinical independence for Lisa. It keeps treatment decisions between the client and the clinician, focusing on the client’s needs, goals, and readiness for change rather than insurance requirements, session limits, or third-party authorizations.
Using insurance may be the more affordable option for therapy, but it requires a mental health diagnosis and involves sharing relevant personal information with the insurance company for claims processing as a standard practice. When privacy has become increasingly rare in modern society, some clients may prefer private-pay therapy because it offers more discretion and reduces third-party involvement in their care as well as access to their private information. The therapy fee reflects the time, training, clinical experience, and individualized attention involved in private care.
a good fit

Lisa works best with clients who are willing to speak openly and honestly, reflect on patterns in their lives, and take an active role in their own growth and healing. Lisa builds strong rapport with each client to ensure that they can directly speak with her about anything, including resistance to therapy itself.
Therapy may be a strong fit for adults who want support that is warm but useful, compassionate but not passive, and honest without being harsh. Lisa does not tell you what you want to hear, nor is she paid to - she guides you to the answers already inside you that may be hard to hear. Lisa is especially well-suited for clients who are ready to better understand themselves, regulate more effectively, make meaningful changes, and take responsibility for the parts of life that are within their control as well as release and accept what is outside of their control.
Clients do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy; many are highly self aware and stuck. Wherever they may be in their journey, the only requirement is that they need to be willing to participate in the process.
Lisa may not be the best fit for clients seeking active crisis care, treatment for psychosis, ongoing violent or sexually inappropriate behavior, and concerns requiring a higher level of care than outpatient therapy can provide.
Therapy at Hawks Hill is not an emergency or crisis service. If a client’s needs fall outside Lisa’s scope of practice or require more intensive support, she will recommend appropriate referrals whenever possible.
Collaborative Care
Many clients seek support for concerns that affect both mind and body. Stress, trauma, grief, chronic illness, fertility challenges, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation often cannot be fully separated into physical or emotional categories.
When appropriate and with your written consent, counseling services can be coordinated with acupuncture treatment through our Collaborative Care model. This allows Justin and Lisa to share relevant clinical observations, coordinate treatment goals, and create a more unified approach to care.
For clients seeking a deeper level of integration, joint psychotherapy and acupuncture sessions may also be available.
REQUEST A CONSULTATION
New clients may begin by requesting a 15-minute phone call consultation to determine fit, availability, and appropriate next steps. A consultation is not a full therapy session and does not automatically establish an ongoing therapeutic relationship.
If therapy appears to be an appropriate fit, Lisa will provide next steps for intake forms, consent documents, scheduling, payment, and access to the secure therapy portal.
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, or call/text 988 for free, confidential crisis support. Hawks Hill's website contact form, therapy portal, voicemail, and email should not be used for urgent or emergency communication.
